QuuxPlayer: Help
Adding Tracks to your Library
Adding tracks to your library tells QuuxPlayer about the files and that you want to have them available for playing. QuuxPlayer will never change the files themselves.
You can add tracks in any of these ways:
- Select Add Folder to Library from the File menu. This will add all the sound files in the selected folder, along with all files found in subfolders.
- Select Add File to Library from the File menu. This allows to to choose a specific file or files to add to your library.
- Drag files from another program (like Windows Explorer or iTunes) onto the main file list.
- Drag files from another program onto a specific standard playlist.
Navigation in QuuxPlayer goes along paths that always return to the main screen. For example, repeatedly advancing the screen (using the space bar or Button 5 on the game pad) results in the following sequence:
Main Screen -> Spectrum Analyzer -> Album Cover (if there is one for the current track) -> Main Screen
Alternatively, you can press the F9 key or hold down gamepad button 5 to follow this path:
Main Screen -> Current Song Lyrics (downloaded from the internet) -> Album Details -> Main Screen
Finally, if you press keyboard keys Control + F12 you will go:
Main Screen -> Equalizer -> Main Screen
Note that only the first step in the path requires a special key. For example, if you press F9 to go to the lyrics screen, you can then press the Space Bar to continue down that path and return to the main screen.
Playlists
Playlists come in three types:
- The System Playlist, of which there is exactly one, called "Now Playing." This shows you any tracks that are due to be played.
- Standard Playlists, which you have complete control of by adding tracks from your library. You can drag or move tracks to get whatever order you wish.
- Automatic Playlists, which are defined by rules you create such as Artist = "Led Zeppelin".
Automatic Playlist Syntax
QuuxPlayer comes with the ability to create automatic playlists which are updated every time you access them. For exapmle, if you create an automatic playlist using the rule Artist = "Pink Floyd", then every time you access this playlist it will scan your library and include any tracks by Pink Floyd. If you add new Pink Floyd tracks, even after you originally created by playlist definition, you they will be included the next time you access the playlist.
Generally the playlist definitions are built from simple clauses such as A is B. You can string these together with Ands and Ors, and use parentheses to clarify complex definitions such as X and (Y or Z).
See the automatic playlist documentation for more examples.

Equalizer
The Equalizer is a high-fidelity high-transparency equalizer which provides gain adjustments from 20Hz to 16,000Hz. You can use the equalizer in the following ways:
- Eq On / Eq Off: Turns the equalizer on or off. Keyboard F12 and holding down gamePad button POV Up will do this even if the equalizer view is not shown.
- Lock: Prevents unintentional changes from being made to the currently shown equalizer setting. Each equalizer setting maintains its own lock.
- Fine Control: When selected, allows you to change each band's setting individually rather than as a group.
- All Together: When selected, all bands will move together; useful for increasing or decreasing the overall gain of a preset.
- Expand: Amplifies the effect of the current settings (either more boost or more cut.)
- Compress: Reduces the effect of the current settings.
- Reset: Resets the settings to their original values (for presets originally included with QuuxPlayer) or zero (for presets you have added.)
- Remove: Removes the current preset from your list.
- New: Adds a new preset. You will be asked for a name.
- 30 Bands / 10 Bands: Switches between high-resolution (30 band) operation and low-resolution (10 band) view. The 30 band equalizer provides for finer control but will consume more CPU time. [Pro Only]
