2.5.0.10 - March 1, 2009- Added Internet Radio support. Click the new Radio icon on the control panel or hit 'R' on your keyboard to see the default station list.
- Radio mode works as much like the normal local player mode as possible -- click Play to start a station feed, Stop to disconnect, etc.
- There are several ways to add stations to your library:
- Enter or paste the URL into the top address bar, and click the 'Add and Play' button; or
- Import a playlist (pls format) that has station urls; or
- Drag a url from your browser into the station or genre list. For example, at shoutcast.com, you can drag the icon that says 'Tune In!' directly into QuuxPlayer.
- Playlist import (both m3u and pls) is available in the Standard Edition, not just the Pro Edition.
- To change the details for a station, such as Name or Genre, select the station and hit Shift+Enter on your keyboard (right-clicking a station will also show this option.
- All major streaming formats are supported: MP3, WMA, ACC+/HE ACC, and OGG.
- Lots more minor improvements.
2.4.0.11 - February 22, 2009- Added an Auto Organize feature which will keep your files organized on your hard drive using song titles, artists names, etc. Choose the Organize Library... item on the File menu to use it. A few pointers:
- You will need to choose one folder on your hard drive to be the Top Folder. This tells QuuxPlayer that that is where you want your music files to be stored. If you set up a top folder and you have files that are not in it (or in a subfolder) you will be asked whether you will want to move them there.
- Two options are available to continue organizing after the initial organization. Organize Files When Tags Change will detect changes made to your files using QuuxPlayer's tag editor (or an external editor) and update the file structure accordingly. Move new files into my main folder will move files at the time they are first added to QuuxPlayer's library. If neither box is checked, or if you click on Don't Organize then further changes to your files will not be made.
- Any file which would be moved that is on a different drive than your top folder will be copied instead of moved. For example, adding a folder on "D:\My Music" to your library on your "C:" drive will copy the files from D: to C: rather than moving them.
- The documentation web page linked from the "Help (on Web)" button is not yet complete but will be up in a day or two.
- Added two new automatic playlists (in addition to Now Playing): Duplicates will show all the tracks in your library which are matched by one or more other tracks in Title, Artist, Album Artist, and Album. Ghosts will show all the tracks in your library for which the file cannot be located.
- Added a new Suggest Duplicate Deletion feature. This will show the Duplicates playlist and will highlight suggestions for deletion based on a "strong match," which means all of Title, Artist, Album Artist, Album, and Track Number are duplicated, and the duration for the matched track is within 1 second (longer or shorter.) (Note that because these criteria are stricter than for merely appearing on the Duplicates playlist, some duplicate sets will not have any tracks highlighted.) One of each set of strong matches will remain unhighlighted, so if you agree with the suggestions you can just hit the Delete key to remove the highlighted tracks. You can choose the priority of deletion by keeping the highest bitrate, oldest tracks, newest tracks, or highest rated tracks. You can find this feature on the main menu by selecting File > Library Maintenance > Suggest Duplicate Deletion.
- Added an option to recycle files to the Windows Recycle Bin when tracks are removed from the library. The default remains to leave files in place.
- Added a feature to push playlists to iTunes. This is useful for synchronizing songs with your iPod. To use, right click any standard or automatic playlist and select Send to iTunes. Afterwards, in iTunes select the device you want to synchronize, select the Music tab, and select either All songs and playlists or Selected Playlists and the playlist that you sent. Note that iTunes is a fairly slow application and so this operation may take a long time, but you can continue to use QuuxPlayer while it is in progress. To cancel the operation while it is in progress, right click the playlist again and select Stop Sending to iTunes.
- Important: If you have checked the Keep iTunes Music folder organized (in the iTunes preferences / advanced screen) be sure to uncheck it -- otherwise iTunes may move your files around and they will become "Ghosts" in the QuuxPlayer library.
- Fixed a bug which caused ASIO output to fail and revert to the default Windows output device when playing sound files sampled at 44,100 Hz on sound cards that do not support 44,100 Hz ASIO input.
- Rewrote sections of code that handle adding and removing tracks from the library to make operations such as folder auto-monitoring, auto-organizing, tag-editing, and manual file additions and deletions work more reliably when they are happening concurrently.
- Numerous other minor stability and performance improvements.
2.3.0.17 - February 8, 2009- Fixed a bug that caused an error when attempting to save artwork to a file on a disconnected drive.
2.3.0.13 - February 7, 2009- Added a new Tag Editor feature. Select any track or group of tracks and hit Shift-Enter to invoke the edit panel.
- Embed album art into your music files by clicking the Load button, or with Copy/Paste, or by drag and drop.
- Choose a rename pattern to rename your files based on your tags.
- If you select more than one track, an Auto-Num button appears which will allow you to automatically set the track numbers.
- Note that this feature is the only way that QuuxPlayer will modify your files. QuuxPlayer will never change your files unless you tell it to.
- Added ability to associate specific equalizer settings with each track. Select the tracks you want, and choose Select Equalizer for Selected Tracks from the Edit menu. Then whenever that track is played, that equalizer setting will be set. "Equalizer" is also now a valid attribute to use in Automatic Playlist definitions, such as "Equalizer is Loudness".
- The search box now accepts negations; for example, zeppelin -stairway will show all tracks that have the word Zeppelin in them except for those that also have the word Stairway.
- Duplicate album art is detected; additional copies are not loaded into memory, which reduces memory requirements.
- Added hotkeys Number Key 1 through Number Key 6 to jump directly to a specific filter.
- Added hotkeys to jump to Amazon.com and Last.fm for additional artist and album details. Click the Internet menu to see the keys.
- File modification date is now shown on the File Details screen.
- Changes to prevent startup errors on Windows Vista (DirectSound errors can occur if QuuxPlayer is started immediately after Windows starts).
2.2.4.9 - February 1, 2009- Instantly invoke the mini-player from any screen with the backslash ('\') key or Show Mini-Player Now item on the Options menu; note that this won't work to restore the full player since generally some other application will have the focus.
- Added alphabetical "skip buttons" to the filter and track list scrollbars, which appear when the list has more items than can be shown at once. Click the 'A' button to move to the previous letter, and 'Z' to move to the next letter. (Also, a couple of tricks for scrollbars: right-click the arrow buttons to go to the top or bottom of the list, and right-click in the open area to scroll to that point.)
- Performance and code cleanup on the Tag Cloud and Equalizer screens.
- Updated the Auto Monitor Folders feature to more quickly find and show new and changed tracks (Pro Only).
2.2.4.7 - Janurary 26, 2009- Added new Mini-Player feature which provides a floating control panel when QuuxPlayer is minimized. Click the right side (on the time display) to show information about the currently playing track. Double-click this area to place the Mini-Player on the lower right of the screen above the taskbar. Click the arrow icon to restore the normal view. This feature can be disabled on the options menu.
- Moved the Export current view as spreadsheet command from the Options menu to the File menu (Pro Only).
